Going into Business with Friends

Posted on December 29, 2015 at 10:45 pm

Many people over the years have sat down and thought about making businesses; going into the details of finance, the ideas, the field and the dreams for where your business might go. The one thing people always think about is going into business with friends; it takes away the risk of working with people you might not like or might not get along with. You know at least until things might go wrong.

Working with people quickly finds out just how well you really get on when the pressure is on. When deadlines are due, when money is tight and when clients are calling non stop – will you still be friends? Will you still get along as well as you were hoping you might do? That kind of pressure really puts strains on relationships, whether you are friends or not so putting extra pressure on a friendship might not be worth it at all. Please tread carefully when making your decision.

Things to consider when you become a Graphic Designer

Posted on November 28, 2015 at 8:39 pm

Are you starting off on a journey of becoming a graphic designer? Of course, we’re sure you’re confident enough in your skills and what you can achieve but here are three fundamentals we think you should always consider.

  • The most important element of graphic design in our opinion is typography. Think about the brand logos and you will always remember the type of font used in their logo. McDonalds and Nike are two very good examples.
  • Simplicity is key. Going overboard with designs is one mistake many graphic designers used to make. By over designing something, your design will not achieve it’s end goal of being memorable.
  • Consider the audience of your design. Again typography is very important when it comes to this.

Making sure your business software is protected

Posted on October 31, 2015 at 11:03 pm

Recently in the news, Talk Talk have confirmed that they have been subjected to a cyber-attack. Initial reports suggested that customer data such as names, addresses, and account numbers along with card / bank details may have been accessed.

This is obviously a massive concern to all of their customers and with little control over what happens next many were contacting Talk Talk and their banks to find out what they could do.

Since the first report, it has been updated that it appears to have been their website that was hacked not the serves containing the customer information, so they are confident that little financial information has been compromised. However this does reiterate the importance of security when it comes to business systems, especially those storing sensitive data. Always ensure that all software used for your business is up to date and that you have firewalls in place that are adequate to prevent a cyber-attack.

Updating your business software

Posted on September 30, 2015 at 8:32 pm

If you have been running the same software within your business for a number of years, it may be time for an update. Often when new versions of software are released, they not only have added functionality which may save you time and money but also important security updates.

Some insurance policies become void if you are not using up to date software meaning that you could be liable should you lose data or compromise the security of it.

Employing a specialist IT company is always a good idea when it comes to business software as they will be able to take the correct steps in terms of backing up data before proceeding with any update or migration.

When looking for new software, be sure to check that it is compatible with your operating system and devices you use. Often you can get a few trial of software prior to committing to buying it or leasing it for a period of time.

Using the correct images in your website design

Posted on August 31, 2015 at 9:41 pm

When designing a website you need to think carefully about what images you are going to use. It may be that you require a few header images to go across the main banner on your website and then possibly images of your staff, products and/or services. Using bad quality images can represent your company in the wrong way making it look unprofessional and dated.

Hiring a photographer for the day will allow you to get quality images in the corrct size and format you need for online and offline use. Taking images from Google is never a good idea as most of them are protected by copyright laws and you could find yourself in trouble for using them.

You can purchase generic images from certain stock websites but remember if you are using them to advertise a product you may need to put a note on stating that the images are for illustration purposes only.
